Travel content

Yellow Mountain towers thousands of feet high, with its thirty-two magnificent peaks blooming like golden lotus flowers amidst red crags and rock columns. So begins one of the most famous poetic descriptions ever recorded of the celebrated mist clad cliffs of Mt Huang, the Yellow Mountains of Li Bai's poem. Fanciful though the description sounds to the casual reader, visitors to the mountain are time and again left breathless, not by the climb, but by the stunning scenery that awaits them. While local Hui culture might not be as old as the hills of Mt Huang, it is one of China's three oldest and most traditional cultures exemplified by a beautifully distinctive architectural style created out of the renowned wealth of the traders from the region. Indeed, the temples, ancestral halls and gardens left to posterity mirror the grandeur of their natural surroundings.
