This comprehensive tour introduces the many delights of this diverse land, full of outstanding natural scenery and historical places of interest. The itinerary includes the legendary Terracotta Warriors of the ancient capital of Xi'an, the splendor of the Yangtze River, the enchanting landscapes of Guilin, the serene waters of the famous West Lake in Hangzhou, the majestic imperial gardens of Suzhou and the bustling modern metropolis of Shanghai. Discover the ancient wonders of this magnificent nation.

Travel Itinerary

  • Day 1:
    Beijing – Xi'an
    • Take soft sleeper train to Xi'an
    • Overnight on board train
  • Day 2:
    Xi'an (B L D)
    • Breakfast at the hotel.
    • Your tour will start with a visit to the Terracotta Warriors: The 2000 year old Terracotta Warriors remain stunningly well-preserved. They were discovered by peasants digging out a well in 1974. The amazingly lifelike figures are arranged in traditional battle formations and stances.
    • Then visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, built in the Tang Dynasty.
    • Visit the Great Mosque, The present Great Mosque was built in the 18th century in a Chinese architectural style and it is still an active place of worship, surrounded by courtyards and gardens.
    • Enjoy a dumpling banquet and Tang Dynasty show in the evening.
    • Overnight in Xi'an
  • Day 3:
    Xi'an – Yichang (B L)
    • After breakfast take a bicycle tour along the Xi'an City Wall.
    • Visit the Xi'an Bell Tower, dating from the 14th century. This huge bell tower in the middle of Xi’an was rebuilt during the Qing Dynasty in 1739. Musical performances are held inside the tower.
    • Transfer to the airport, flight to Yichang.
    • Upon arrival in Yichang, transfer to Yangtze River boat pier.
    • Board the cruise ship in the evening.
    • Later in the evening your cruise director will give you an introduction to your cruise ship and the facilities on board.

  • Day 4:
    Yangtze (B L D)
    • After breakfast you will start your first on-shore excursion and visit the massive "Three Gorges Dam". It is the largest hydro-power plant in the world.
    • After returning to the ship, you will cruise down the western part of the zigzagging "Xiling Gorge".
    • Before dinner you are invited to join your guide who will share some interesting facts and information about the famous Yangtze River.
    • Attend the Captain's welcome dinner in the evening, followed by an enjoyable performance with dancing and singing by the ship's crew.

  • Day 5:
    Yangtze (B L D)
    • After breakfast you disembark for an excursion to the Shennong Stream. This small tributary of the Yangtze River is the main transportation link for the farmers living in the area. Even today they still use small wooden boats that are pulled upstream.
    • Return to the cruise ship in the early afternoon.
    • After lunch pass the mythical "Wu Gorge", with its famous mountains and dramatic green slopes.
    • Visit the wild and narrow "Qutang Gorge".
    • Dinner in the evening.

  • Day 6:
    Yangtze (B L D)
    • After breakfast your cruise vessel will arrive in Zhong County where you will have your last shore excursion and visit the Stone Treasure Fortress. This rocky and craggy hill has extremely steep sides and is about 200 meters (700 feet) tall. On the river side of the hill is a red, nine storey pavilion which leans against the hill providing a walkway to the temple at the summit. A yellow doorway at the base of the pavilion provides an entrance.
    • After lunch you will have time to relax and enjoy a traditional Chinese massage, or join the entertainment program offered by your river guide.
    • Farewell dinner in the evening, followed by a second performance by the crew of the ship.

  • Day 7:
    Chongqing – Guilin (B D)
    • Arrival in Chongqing in the morning.
    • Disembark from the cruise ship after breakfast.
    • Transfer to airport, flight to Guilin, transfer to hotel.
    • In the afternoon, visit Reed Flute Cave, given its name because of the verdant reeds growing outside which local people use to make flutes. Inside this water-eroded cave is a spectacular world of various stalactites, stone pillars and rock formations created by carbonate deposits. Illuminated by colored lighting, the fantastic spectacle features many variations along the huge cave which is 240 meters in length.
    • Visit Elephant Trunk Hill (Xiangbi Shan), one of Guilin's most well-known landmarks, a limestone peak within the city. It actually does look like an elephant drinking from the Li River.
    • Overnight in Guilin
  • Day 8:
    Guilin – Yangshuo (B L)
    • After breakfast, transfer to the pier to take a boat cruise on the Li River (lunch is included on the cruise ship). Enjoy the breathtaking scenery along the Li River as it twists through the sweeping mountains of Guizhou.
    • After arrival in Yangshuo in the afternoon you will have free time to stroll around this charming small market town. Consider exploring the beautiful surroundings either by foot or by renting a bicycle.
    • Overnight in Yangshuo
  • Day 9:
    Yangshuo – Longsheng –Guilin (B L)
    • Breakfast at the hotel.
    • Transfer to Longsheng to visit the Longsheng rice terraces. These lovely terraced fields are an amazing example of farm engineering. The fields are situated on a sloping hillside that climbs from the riverside up to the mountain top, the highest part being 880 meters in elevation while the lowest part is at 380 meters, providing superb vistas. The terraced fields were mostly built during the Ming Dynasty about 500 years ago.
    • Transfer back to Guilin.
    • Overnight in Guilin
  • Day 10:
    Guilin – Hangzhou (B)
    • Breakfast at the hotel.
    • Transfer to airport, flight to Hangzhou.
    • Upon arrival, our tour guide will meet you at the airport.
    • Arrival in Hangzhou, transfer to hotel. Time at leisure to explore Hangzhou.
    • Overnight in Hangzhou
  • Day 11:
    Hangzhou (B L)
    • Visit the Lingyin Temple (Monastery of Hidden Souls), one of the ten most famous ancient Buddhist temples in China. It houses Buddhist literature and treasures with more than 470 stone carvings of Buddhist figures, dating from the 10th to 14th centuries.
    • Take a boat tour on the famous West Lake.
    • Enjoy time at leisure to stroll around the beautiful West Lake.
    • Overnight in Hangzhou
  • Day 12:
    Hangzhou - Wuzhen (B L)
    • After breakfast drive to Wuzhen, located in the center of the six ancient towns south of Yangtze River, Wuzhen displays its 2000 year history in its ancient stone bridges, its cobble stone pathways and its delicate wood carvings.
    • Upon arrival in Wuzhen take a leisurely stroll in this ancient water town.
    • Enjoy the serenity of the old houses that line both sides of the river; visit various specialty workshops for wine-making, batik, embroidery etc.
    • Overnight in Wuzhen
  • Day 13:
    Wuzhen – Suzhou (B)
    • Free time in the morning to enjoy Wuzhen.
    • Afternoon transfer to Suzhou (about 2.5hrs).
    • Upon arrival in Suzhou, transfer to the hotel.

  • Day 14:
    Suzhou – Shanghai (B L)
    • Start the tour with Suzhou classic gardens, visit the "Humble Administrator's Garden,"  the largest garden in Suzhou. Then have the opportunity to visit the "No.1 Silk Factory," where you can see how silk is processed from the silk worm to the final woven cloth.
    • After lunch visit the Lion Grove Garden, a popular Buddhist center.
    • Transfer to the train station, take a train to Shanghai.

    Shanghai (B)
    • All day at leisure in Shanghai.

  • Day 16:
    Shanghai (B L)
    • In the morning visit Yuyuan Garden, a famous classical garden located in the center of Shanghai's old city. The garden was first established in 1559 as a private garden created by Pan Yunduan, who spent almost 20 years building it to please his father Pan En, a high-ranking official in the Ming Dynasty.
    • Later you will visit The Shanghai Chenghuang temple, which was first constructed during the Yongle reign (1403-1424) of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). It is considered a key historical site in Shanghai. Furthermore, it is also a famous venue for religious activities and an important window for foreign people to understand China's religious culture.
    • Afterwards, you will have some free time to stroll along the Bund to experience the thrills of old Shanghai.
    • Transfer back to the hotel.
    • Overnight in Shanghai.
  • Day 17:
    Shanghai –Beijing (B)
    • Check out from the hotel.
    • Flight back to Beijing.
