Travelers to Tibet still marvel at the strange wonders of this mystically alluring land at the top of the world, which only opened to tourism less than 30 years ago. The sparkling high-altitude air, dramatic mountain vistas, the exotic aura of mysterious palaces and monasteries, the devotion of monks and pilgrims, and the genuine friendliness of the people, all invite you to embark on your own journey of spiritual discovery.
 

Travel Itinerary

  • Day 1:
    Beijing/Shanghai – Xining (D)
    • Take the flight from Beijing/Shanghai to Xining in the morning
    • Upon arrival, meet the guide at the airport
    • Visit Ta Er Monastery; also visit a fortune teller there.
    • Overnight in Xining
  • Day 2:
    Xining – Lhasa (B L)
    • Breakfast at the hotel
    • Visit Qutang Temple and Tibetan Medicine Museum
    • Visit Free Market and time at leisure
    • Transfer to the train station and take the night train to Lhasa
    • Overnight in the train    
  • Day 3:
    Lhasa
    • Arrive in Lhasa in the evening.
    • Upon arrival, your guide will meet you at the train station.
    • Transfer to the hotel.

  • Day 4:
    Lhasa (B L)
    • Breakfast at the hotel
    • Your amazing tour of Tibet begins at the Jokhang Temple. Built in the 7th century, it is considered the most significant religious structure for all Tibetans. Many pilgrims pay homage to their faith at this sacred temple each day.
    • Afterwards, we will visit what is often recognized as the symbol of Lhasa, the incredible Potala Palace. For many years it was used as the winter residence of the Dalai Lama.
    • The last stop of the day is Barkhor Street. As part of the worshipers' pilgrimage circuit, this area of the Old Town is both the spiritual heart of Lhasa and the main commercial district for Tibetans.

  • Day 5:
    Lhasa (B L)
    • Breakfast at the hotel
    • Today our trek takes us to the venerable Sera Monastery. This monastery not only served as a place of worship, but also as a house of higher learning. Established in 1419 by the scholar Tsongkhapa, Sera Monastery was considered the most famous academy in Tibet. You will have an opportunity to see the monk's debate there.
    • Then, visit the second largest monastery in the world, Norbulingka (meaning, 'precious stone garden'), formerly the Dalai Lama's summer residence. Currently 400 monks reside here.
    • Finally, we will visit the Tibet Museum, located in the southeast corner of Norbulingka. It covers an area of 23,508 square meters (5.8 acres) including the exhibition area of 10,451 square meters (2.6 acres).
    • Overnight in Lhasa

        

  • Day 6:
    Lhasa – Yamdrok Lake – Lhasa (B L)
    • Breakfast at the hotel
    • We begin our scenic drive to the beautiful Yamdrok Lake.
    • Transfer back to Lhasa in the afternoon
    • Overnight in Lhasa    
  • Day 7:
    Lhasa – Beijing/Shanghai(B)
    • Time at leisure until transfer to the airport
    • Fly to Beijing/Shanghai in the afternoon
